Paul O’Sullivan Jr.
PAUL F. O’SULLIVAN JR. enlisted in the U.S. Army at age eighteen, in 1969 He was selected to attend the United State Military Academy at West Point, New York, and retired in 1994 as a lieutenant colonel of aviation He served in the DOS Air Wing from 1992 until he retired in 2013, including a two-year period working in the Narcotics Assistance Section, U S Embassy, Guatemala. His positions in the Air Wing were senior PASA in Bolivia, 1992–1994; DynCorp site manager in Guatemala, 1994–1996; an INL PSC in NAS Guatemala, 1996–1998; then as the Civil Service Air Wing Director of Operations from 1998–2006, and finally as Air Wing deputy director from 2006 until his retirement in 2013.
During his time with the Air Wing, he and his family lived downrange for two years in Bolivia and five years in Guatemala While stationed at Patrick AFB from 1998 until 2013, he made seventy-eight overseas trips to eleven different countries, with forty-four of those trips to Colombia. During his Army days, he wore Master Aviator wings, the Ranger Tab, Parachute wings, Air Assault badge, and Republic of Singapore Parachute wings While with the Air Wing, he was awarded the Republic of Bolivia Air Force Aeronautical Order of Merit, Officer of the Order (back when Bolivia liked the U S ), Republic of Colombia Army Pilot wings, as well as the Colombia Army Aviation Military Medal for St Michael the Archangel for services to Colombian Army Aviation During his days with INL, he was awarded two Meritorious Honor Awards and five Superior Honor Awards for his work in Colombia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq
In 2003, he was awarded the 2003 Helicopter Association annual International MD Helicopters Law Enforcement Award for his counternarcotics work, primarily in Colombia.
He was most certainly one of John McLaughlin’s Mission/Men/Paperwork-will-follow “Operations Centric” gnus — and proud of it. He is retired in Melbourne, Florida, and still rides his BMW motorcycle. He can be contacted at pfosullivanjr@gmail com.
