Paul Fattig
Contrary to what he sometimes tell folks with tongue held firmly in cheek, Paul wasn’t actually raised by wolves in the wild. But it is true his grandparents homesteaded in Southern Oregon, and that he and his siblings, like their father and his siblings, were born and reared in the region where they all ran rampant in the mountains, making wolves exceedingly nervous. After an uneventful hitch in the Marine Corps and what he describes as a less than stellar scholastic performance at the University of Oregon, he managed to obtain a degree in journalism. Over the subsequent decades, he was able to convince more than a dozen newspaper editors from Alaska to California to hire him, decisions which he hopes did not leave a permanent blemish on their careers. Upon retiring to become a recovering journalist at the end of 2013, he immediately fell off the wagon and started writing books. He is the author of two non-fiction books: Up Sterling Creek Without a Paddle and Madstone. He lives happily with his wife, Maureen, in a restored cabin not far from his grandparent’s original homestead with a menagerie of adopted fierce creatures.
