The lure of smuggling is as old as frontiers, as taxation, as a tinker`s trek from one fiefdom to the next. The covert carrying across a border of something either prohibited or seen as prohibitively taxed pervades our history, and the West Coast`s record is in some ways outstanding.

With its remote coves and miles of unpopulated shored, the West Coast has always lured individuals who felt they could outrun the law and smuggle illegal items such as drugs or weapons for money or to avoid government regulations.
