Dale Reich
Dale Reich was born and raised in the little community of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. After graduating from high school in 1965, he began studying for a career in law at the University of Wisconsin. Two years later he volunteered for the draft and left for Vietnam in June 1968 to begin his one year tour of duty as an Army infantryman. He became a writer while in Vietnam and worked as the co-editor of the official newspaper of the 11th Infantry Brigade of the Americal Division. His articles eventually appeared in newspapers throughout Southeast Asia. He received both the Combat Infantry badge and the Army Commendation Medal for his service. Reich returned from the war to earn a bachelor\’s degree in Journalism and a combined master\’s degree in history and education. He has written five books and has won numerous awards for his articles, editorials, and photographs.
Recently, Dale has turned his talents to writing children’s books. Noah’s Neighbor was the first in a series of books written for young children. Also known as “Bumpa” to his four grandsons, Dale believes that one of the greatest gifts that a parent can give his or her child is to read them a bedtime story every night. “It was the best part of each day as my children were growing up,” he says. “I just wish I could go back and do it all over again! I hope my children feel the same way.”
